In response to the concerns over the link between Paxil and birth defects and other life threatening conditions, Andrus Wagstaff PC is investigating potential lawsuits for victims.
Paxil producer, GlaxoSmithKline, was met with Paxil lawsuits and charges ranging from wrongful death to birth defects. Prosecutors allege that the company is guilty of illegal promotion of the medication. Paxil was advertised as being safe and effective for the treatment of depression in children. However, this was done despite the FDA never approving the use of Paxil for anyone under the age of 18. Another warning issued a public health advisory warning that Paxil can induce serotonin syndrome. This condition causes toxic levels of serotonin that can result in hallucinations, hypertensive crisis, and death.
One of the most common types of problems in Paxil lawsuits is birth defects. Paxil has twice the chance of causing a birth defect than any other antidepressant in the market. Most birth defects in these Paxil lawsuits are heart-related. There have also been reports of babies born with antidepressant dependency to Paxil. Mothers who were prescribed to Paxil during the third trimester of their pregnancy have a substantially increased likelihood of newborns that have Paxil dependency.
Some other serious side effects associated with Paxil use include:
• Homicidal and suicidal tendencies
• Difficult withdrawal with marked dependency symptoms
• Psychological symptoms (anxiety attacks, mood swings)
• A marked risk of causing suicidal thoughts and tendencies in children under the age of 18
